Facing Anxiety in Children

Hyperactivity is one of the more common signs, especially in children who have a hard time sitting still or staying concentrated. If your child exhibits these symptoms, they should seek help at once.

If your child has a hard time focusing or staying calm, they may be displaying classic symptoms of an anxiety disorder. Children can get so much energy from doing things that seem like a good idea at first, but then they seem to get out of control. As soon as you notice any of these signs in your child, you need to get them to the doctor for a proper diagnosis. While there are medications available for treating anxiety and depression in children, natural remedies are better.

Therapy sessions and behavioral modification techniques have worked wonders for many. The key is to find the right combination of treatment options for your child. Many children suffer from different symptoms, so you should take their age, their personality, and the severity of the symptoms into consideration when choosing the right plan. For instance, if your child is extremely fearful of a particular event or place, they may need medication and intense therapy sessions to overcome this problem. Also, if your child seems to be excessively happy or talkative, they may need counseling as well.

There are also alternative treatments for anxiety symptoms in children like herbal remedies and hypnosis. These are both non-medical methods of treating anxiety disorders. Natural supplements such as St. John’s Wort and Passion Flower can be taken to help calm your child down. They work by reducing stress levels and restoring the chemical balance in the brain. Herbal remedies like Passion Flower extract can be made into tea, which you can drink with a cup of hot water.
